Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Aircraft”) is the final assembly and manufacturing center of COMAC. It was originally established in 1950 as an aircraft repair team, later renamed as State-owned Factory No. 5703 and Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Plant. On May 11, 2008, it was fully integrated into COMAC. On June 6, 2009, it completed its corporate restructuring and became Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. On March 9, 2018, the first board of directors was established to improve the corporate governance mechanism. The legal representative of Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is Zhang Xiaoguang (Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of COMAC, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd.).

Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. currently has two major bases: Pudong and Dacang. The Dacang base covers an area of 489 mu and is primarily responsible for the production of aviation components and special processes; The Pudong base covers an area of 4,049 mu and primarily undertakes tasks such as the final assembly and integration of the C909 and C919 aircraft, the development of the C929 aircraft, composite material research and manufacturing, aviation component manufacturing, and aircraft maintenance and delivery.

Currently, Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd. primarily undertakes the mass production of the C909 and C919 aircraft, which are independently developed by China, as well as the development of the C929 aircraft. The C909 aircraft has been delivered to customers including Chengdu Airlines, Tianjiao Airlines, Jiangxi Airlines, China International Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, HNA Airlines, and Lingya Airlines. The C919 aircraft was delivered to its first customer, China Eastern Airlines, on December 9, 2022. On May 28, 2023, China Eastern Airlines' C919 aircraft successfully completed its first commercial flight, officially entering the civil aviation market. The development of the C929 aircraft is progressing steadily.
